For just NTD 120, the array of experiences offered at Heping Island is truly remarkable! If you have a passion for nature and history, i'd highly recommend it as a must go on your travel plan if heading to Keelung.

Accessibility

Unfortunately, one of the biggest challenges of visiting Heping Island is accessibility. Tucked away along the coastline and somewhat distant from Keelung, it takes almost 40 minutes to reach the island by bus. Coupled with limited bus schedules, this can make the journey quite a hassle.

Uniqueness

Heping Island uniquely showcases its rich history alongside its natural beauty. Over the years, geological activity has sculpted fascinating rock formations, including arches and sea stacks, that has resulted in it's intresting coastline. In addition, historically Heping Island has served as a military outpost and as a result has left behind intresting remnants to this day. This blend of intriguing history and stunning natural landscapes makes Heping Island a unique destination for exploration in keelung.

My Experience

Heping Island was a pleasant suprise! Although I wouldn't say it is accessible, it's one of the closer scenic attractions to the Keelung city center. To get to Heping, I took the public bus, and to navigate I used google maps and the keelung city bus app for directions. After around a 40min bus ride, I needed to walk for around 10 minutes and then arrived at the entrance. The entrance to the park was much different than I expected! Unlike Wangyougu (also a popular scenic hiking spot), Heping Island is well paved throughout, making it easy and convenient to navigate around the island. There were also numerous intresting rock formations, which had been formed due to waves striking the island's coast over a long period of time. The rock formations were similiar to the ones you can see at the famous Yehliu geographic park. What stood out the most to me, were the different historical elements scattered throughout the island. There were cannons, sheds, and a visitor center which had been used as a former military base. Overall, it's a very captivating and easy place for anyone to visit. I'd highly recommend visiting Heping if you plan to visit Keelung.
