Accessibility

Unfortunately, reaching Wakasuka can be quite challenging, as it’s situated atop a mountain. If you do have a car, i'd recommend driving up. Nevertheless, hiking up is also an option. Although it's a long trek, the journey is definitely worth it!

Uniqueness

Nestled away unlike the bustling and popular Nara Park, Wakasuka provides a unique perspective to enjoy the beauty of Nara and its renowned deer.

My Experience

Having visited Nara numerous times, I sought to experience something beyond the famous Nara Park. To uncover hidden gems, I asked a local friend from Nara to show me around. One of the last and most memorable destinations he took me to was Wakakusa Park. The drive up the mountain is quite scenic, and upon arrival, you're greeted with a stunning view of the Nara cityscape, along with many adorable deer! I was fortunate to enjoy the ride in a car, but not everyone has that luxury. Nevertheless, I did notice some tourists hiking up the trail. I do think the gruesome hike is still worth it! I highly recommend visiting the mountain, especially reaching the peak at sunset. You'll be treated to a fabulous view accompanied by delightful deer!
